Nathan Huntley
MSW Intern
(University of South Dakota)
Nathan brings together nearly two decades of lived recovery experience from substance use and trauma/abuse with a professional background in youth mentoring, international coaching, leadership development, and systems transformation. In addition to attending the University of South Dakota's Master in Social Work program, he holds multiple undergraduate degrees, a Master’s in Strategic Leadership, and has supported individuals and communities worldwide in aligning with their purpose, stepping into healing, and creating sustainable life change. Outside of internship, Nathan works as a recovery coach and state-wide community engagement advocate for mental & behavioral health. His journey through long-term recovery has shaped his belief that transformation is not only possible, it is sacred work that happens in safe, honest, and hope-filled spaces.
Nathan’s therapeutic approach is relational, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. He believes that healing starts with being seen and heard and that progress is never linear. Nathan works collaboratively with clients to explore identity, resilience, growth, and more while rooted in the belief that therapy can be most effective when helping the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of each person. He brings cultural humility, curiosity, and deep presence into the room, creating a space where clients are empowered to lead their own change at their own pace.
Nathan is most passionate about working with ages 12+, particularly those navigating trauma, life transitions, identity development, stress, and mood changes. His clinical work is supported by modalities such as CBT, DBT, TST, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation. Whether supporting someone in early recovery, exploring who they are becoming, or building a new vision for the future, Nathan loves serving youth and young adults who long to be seen beyond their pain and realize their dreams & potential.
Outside of session, Nathan is a competitive CrossFit athlete who believes movement is a powerful part of emotional and mental wellness. He enjoys time outdoors hiking & camping, skateboarding & mountain biking, devours books, plays guitar and drums, engages in theological/spiritual reflections, and spending time with his wife and four children while also looking forward to welcoming his first grandchild in early 2026. A proud Lebanese-American, Nathan carries a deep respect for cultural identity, family systems, and intergenerational healing into both his personal life and his work.
