great mental health places to work for in Colorado

Frequently Asked Questions

Tell me a little about yourself.

Our clinic primarily serves Medicaid. We are passionate about serving clients who have traditionally struggled to find high quality, long term mental health care from dedicated, caring clinicians who are not suffering from burnout.

We believe in equity, inclusion, diversity, and justice in the work that we do. We are real “roll up your sleeves” kind of people that want to really make a difference in the world. We are better together and believe we do our best work when we use a team and systemic approach, including 4+ hours per week for (paid!) consultation and case staffing.

We celebrate diversity and are a welcoming space for people of all races, genders, religions, nationalities, and disability statuses. We strive to be intentional about identifying and working through our biases, blind spots, and countertransference.

While we are all united about our passion to work with people who come from hard places, we also believe that there are a lot of amazing ways to do that. We value regular continuing education at the expense of the clinic because we want to see you grow and flourish as a clinician. We welcome all provider types - the serious analytical bookworms, the free-spirited yogis, the whimsical ones that are often covered in paint and glitter, and everyone in between.

Our values:

  • Integrity and ethics

  • Quality patient care

  • Happy, healthy staff

  • Fiscal responsibility

  • Learning, education, and research

  • Social justice

  • Community

  • Prevention and education

  • Strengths-based

How can I make myself a good applicant?

The ideal applicant has an attention to detail, excellent communication and writing skills, good organizational skills, a passion for trauma and social justice, and the ability to work as both a team player and independently. Prior experience with Medicaid documentation is a plus!

Our office primarily serves youth, adults, and families with trauma and co-occurring conditions. Clients are typically seen anywhere from every other week to up to 20 hours per week in our intensive programs. Our providers receive a high level of support with 2-4 opportunities for supervision/consultation per week, paid administrative time, case managers, and camaraderie. Excellent applicants enjoy working on a team and learning from others.

therapy jobs, mental health positions, social work careers

What do you like about working here?

Our team is fun, motivated, and actually gets along with each other. We love plants and dogs (although a few rogue providers prefer cats), but we also really love what we do. All staff are provided regular individual and group supervision at no cost to them. Every Monday we have breakfast together as we consult on cases. We also have several paid days off, including roughly 10-12 days during the holiday season, a summer break, and other days throughout the year. Annually, we celebrate Employee Appreciation Day with lots of food, gifts, and a paid long weekend. Three times a year, we get together for dinner or a Switchbacks game with staff, interns, and our families. Occasionally, our team celebrates each other with fun in-office competitions, such as our spring fitness challenge, holiday door decorating contests, and more.

How can I apply?

The first step is to email your resume and cover letter in PDF format to danielle@thepattersoncenter.org and complete our online Google application. (Fellowship applicants must also include Masters-level unofficial transcripts.) From there, you may be invited to participate in two interviews. We will contact your references, complete a background check, and make a final determination. Hiring occurs on a rolling basis throughout the year. We are always looking for great candidates!

Why do you pay hourly as a W2 rather than as a 1099 or fee split?

We trust that you know how to spend your time in a way that gives the best care to your clients. That means that time spent in approved trainings, doing unbillable case management, making phone calls, answering emails, completing documentation, attending supervision, and providing lower-paying services is considered equally as valuable as the highest paying service we provide.

We believe in access to health care for all. By paying the same hourly rate, our providers are encouraged to take any insurance they are in network with rather than choosing only clients with higher paying coverage.

We want healthy, happy providers. When you feel better, our clients feel better. This model allows us to provide more and better benefits because it ensures that everyone meets the 30 hour per week minimum without having to worry about cancellations, no shows, or caseload size.

We understand that financial anxiety is real. By offering an hourly rate, you do not have to worry about your paycheck varying week to week. It also reduces countertransference by not allowing client attendance to dictate your paycheck.

We provide a robust training ground for new clinicians. Our W2 model is largely thanks to our dedication to supporting pre-licensed clinician in their journey to becoming a fully licensed provider. We support our clinicians through excellent education opportunities, ample supervision, and a vibrant, welcoming team atmosphere.

We want to let you focus on the good stuff. You went to school to become a therapist. You are probably really good at that. Let us handle the advertising, billing, taxes, and other headaches that come with running a practice.
