      <image:title>Services - Diagnostic Evaluation</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the initial session to begin individual, family, or group therapy. Also known as the intake, this session is 60 minutes long. You will be interviewed about what is bringing you into therapy, your goals, symptoms, and history. This is also a time for you to ask any questions that you may have about therapy before committing to additional sessions. Please have a list of previous diagnoses, current medications, and previous mental health providers ready. If you have mental health or medical records, please bring those in. Self-pay: $160, sliding scale and intern rates available</image:caption>

      <image:title>Services - Individual Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Individual therapy is used as the main intervention for most mental health conditions. Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes long and may be weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Therapy may be just a few sessions or long-term depending on your needs. In the first session after your diagnostic evaluation, you and your therapist will create a treatment plan that is unique to you. This is a road map to help you achieve your therapy goals. As you come closer to your goals, you and your therapist may agree to make your sessions less frequent. Self-pay rate: $130 per session, sliding scale and intern rates available</image:caption>

      <image:title>Services - Family Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Family therapy involves the client and any friends or family members that are involved in his or her care. Family therapy can be highly effective in developing new communication patterns, healing old wounds, building understanding and empathy, and looking towards growth together. In order to make the session most effective, it is best if the session is limited to 3-4 people. Family therapy is often used in conjunction with individual therapy. Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes long, although may be booked for longer if needed. Self-pay rate: $130 per 45-55 minute session, sliding scale and intern rates available</image:caption>

      <image:title>Services - Groups</image:title>
<image:caption>Groups are a helpful way of building support, learning more about yourself and a common challenge, and finding that you are not alone. While groups can be intimidating at first, many people find it freeing to be able to talk about their problems with like-minded people. Group members often share tips and tricks together and find support. Groups are typically limited to 8 clients so it is important that you sign up fast! Groups are usually 8-12 sessions long and may be weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Self-pay rate: Varies, please inquire about specific group</image:caption>

      <image:title>Internship Program - Our Internship Programs</image:title>
<image:caption>What internships do you offer? We proudly offer internships for concentration and foundation year MSW students as well as counseling students. At this time, we do not have an LMFT on staff and are therefore unable to offer MFT internships unless you are able to provide external supervision. When can I start? We start all students on the same day each semester. Students must commit to at least two consecutive semesters. Start dates usually include around the beginning of January, the middle of May, and the end of August. Why choose The Patterson Center for Resiliency? Our students grow and thrive in our competitive, highly rated internship program for early clinical professionals interested in trauma and attachment disorders in children and adults. Additionally, we offer opportunity for budding macro social workers to develop skills around advocacy, program development, research, and case management. Our internships are offered hybrid in Colorado Springs to give emerging clinicians a cutting edge towards the growing market of telehealth. We offer robust training, supervision, and client experiences with opportunity for hire after graduation. Our past interns report that they feel ready to be an entry-level clinician after completing our program. How many students are in your internship program? Each cohort is typically 3-5 students. Summer cohorts tend to be smaller. Our program fills quickly, with August being our most competitive season and spots often filling by March. We typically accept about 1/3 of applicants to our program. How can I find more information? You can find detailed information about our internship programs by clicking the link below for your degree type. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate unique needs, such as specific start dates, long gaps in the internship, etc. Due to a high volume of calls, please do not leave voicemails for more information. <image:title>Individual Therapy - Take a breath.</image:title>
<image:caption>We provide individual therapy to youth 12+ and adults. All of our staff are LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcoming. Therapy is a safe, confidential space to work through unhelpful thinking patterns, build self-confidence, develop healthier relationships, and develop behaviors that help you live your fullest life. Combined, all of this is likely to improve your mood. In your first meeting with your provider, you will get to know each other through questions that help your provider to better understand what is bringing you into therapy. From there, you and your provider will work together to create a treatment plan individualized to you, your needs, and your strengths.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Individual Therapy - How we do it.</image:title>
<image:caption>The primary ways we treat PTSD, anxiety, and depression are through CBT, DBT, and EMDR. These are primarily talk therapies, although EMDR also includes some somatic healing. With youth and interested adults, we may also include journaling, art, books, games, activities, and sometimes even video games. How long a course of treatment will take differs for every person and is hard to predict. Our clients receive an individualized treatment plan, not a canned prescription for a certain number of sessions. On average, our clients can expect at least a year of therapy. However, many clients with trauma are in therapy for longer than this while still making progress. Clients without significant trauma generally benefit from a shorter course of treatment with one of our trained interns.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Family Therapy - Grow together.</image:title>
<image:caption>We offer family therapy to children ages 12+ and their parents. Family therapy can be an effective tool in improving communication, trust, bonding, understanding, and attachment. All of this together often improves mood and behavior in the child as well as other members of the household. Typically, family therapy is done in conjunction with individual therapy for the child and possibly other family members. Family therapy is designed to focus on your family’s strengths and goals, helping you to grow together as one. Family therapy is available on a limited basis due to high demand. At this time, we are unable to offer couples counseling.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Family Therapy - Supporting parents.</image:title>
<image:caption>Family therapy can also be provided with just a child’s caregivers present to improve an understanding of the child’s inner world as well as ways to support the child with their mental health and behavioral struggles. Our clinic specializes in teaching therapeutic parenting skills for children who have experienced trauma, parental separation, loss, and other stressors. This is a non-traditional parenting approach that focuses on helping children to feel safe and confident in making healthy decisions rather than simply punishing children into compliance - which often does not work! Our family therapy techniques use the work of Karyn Purvis, Bessel van der Kolk, Sarah Naish, Dan Siegel, Peter Levine, Dan Hughes, Ross Greene, and others.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Supportive Skill-Building - Build your confidence.</image:title>
<image:caption>Supportive skill-building is provided by our trained interns for youth 12+ and adults. This is a short to long-term intervention used to improve coping strategies, communication, problem-solving skills, daily living skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to identify emotions. Supportive skill building usually lasts 3-12 months to either give you a boost while you work on tough stuff with another therapist, or on its own for mild mental health concerns. Many clients utilize supportive skill-building to: Prepare for or receive additional support while trauma processing Reserve space for therapy to be focused on processing rather than developing skills Prevent or step down from a higher level of care, like a hospital setting, PHP (partial hospitalization program), or IOP (intensive outpatient program) Develop necessary skills in an affordable, welcoming, and warm environment Spend a season of life really focusing on themselves, their well-being, and their mental health</image:caption>

      <image:title>Supportive Skill-Building - Take control of your life.</image:title>
<image:caption>Clients can receive supportive skill-building services in a group or individual setting. Most clients participate once or twice per week, but daily support is available. Some topics that may be covered in your work with one of our skills specialists include: Building resumes and finding jobs Cooking, shopping, budgeting Setting and achieving goals Improving sleep Developing healthy habits Building a support network Developing mindfulness and grounding skills Developing social and relationship skills Improving communication Managing emotions and triggers Problem-solving Developing leisure and recreational activities Creating and maintaining boundaries Self-care Creating a routine Preparing for life changes Developing conflict resolution skills Launching into adulthood</image:caption>

      <image:title>Supportive Skill-Building - Find Your Strength.</image:title>
<image:caption>With youth, supportive skill building includes coaching, mentoring, and training to achieve more age-appropriate behaviors by using games, videos, and art. With adults, some of these techniques may be used in addition to worksheets, journaling, practicing skills, and reflecting on challenges around these. Supportive skill-building can also be used in conjunction with work by a therapist at another clinic if both providers are able to work together to coordinate your care. This service is available to clients with many insurances including Medicaid. Affordable private pay rates are also available.</image:caption>

      <image:title>EMDR - Tell your story.</image:title>
<image:caption>EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), often in conjunction with CBT and DBT, is the primary way we treat trauma and other conditions at The Patterson Center. During the first few months of therapy, you and your provider will build a trusting relationship together, develop coping strategies, work on naming and being comfortable with your emotions, and create a support system for yourself. From there, you and your therapist will create a timeline of your life - the highs and the lows. This will be used to target memories in EMDR.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e4a1c63a899cd094256ea49/1648869233839-X392D9WFMBQLJRT806IO/unsplash-image-Ug5roZHlC78.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>EMDR - Begin a new journey.</image:title>
<image:caption>This is where it gets interesting. Nobody is sure how EMDR works, we just know it does. EMDR uses something called bilateral stimulation to help activate both sides of the brain at the same time. Bilateral stimulation requires activation of both sides of the body, such as tapping one leg or shoulder and then the other, looking side to side, hearing sounds in alternating ears, or using paddles that buzz in your hands one at a time. Bilateral stimulation helps us to keep one foot in the present while one foot goes into the past. This can help you to feel safer and improve faster. Many clients find that once EMDR is started, they begin to feel better in as little as one to two sessions. More questions? Check out this video.</image:caption>

      <image:title>CBT and DBT - CBT.</image:title>
<image:caption>Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a tried and true intervention that is among the most popular in the US. CBT helps you understand how your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and triggers are all connected. CBT helps you become more in-tune with and accepting of your inner world. It also helps you to identify core beliefs that are keeping you stuck while creating healthier, more balanced thought patterns. Both CBT and DBT are generally a talk therapy, although other activities can be used too to support you on your unique journey. Many of our clients (especially our teens!) enjoy incorporating journaling, art, movement, or games into their sessions.</image:caption>

      <image:title>CBT and DBT - DBT</image:title>
<image:caption>Dialectical behavioral therapy, or DBT, is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy. DBT has 4 pillars: Distress tolerance: Helping you to build skills to be able to manage strong emotions and not feel overwhelmed by them. Think of this as emotional defense. Emotion regulation: Helping you to stay even-keeled and develop healthy self-care habits. Think of this as emotional offense. Mindfulness: Being aware of what is happening in your mind, in your body, and in your surroundings - then putting words to it. Interpersonal effectiveness: A fancy way of saying “social skills,” interpersonal effectiveness helps you get your needs met and express your feelings or needs without damaging your relationship with yourself or with others.</image:caption>

      <image:title>MSW Internship Program - Frequently Asked Questions</image:title>
<image:caption>Tell me a little about yourself. Our clinic primarily serves Medicaid. We are passionate about serving clients who have traditionally struggled to find high quality, long term mental health care from dedicated, caring clinicians who are not suffering from burnout. We believe in equity, inclusion, diversity, and justice in the work that we do. Our values: Integrity and ethics Quality patient care Happy, healthy staff Fiscal responsibility Learning, education, and research Social justice Community Prevention and education Strengths-based I have a different timeline, availability, or degree. Can I still participate? Our program has been carefully tailored to give interns and their clients the best experience. Due to this, we are unable to be flexible with the start date, hours of availability (unless more than 12 are required), degree, or other requirements described above. A cohort is started each semester. Students may participate in the program for a minimum of two consecutive semesters. My school does not have a partnership with you but I am interested. How can I get started? We proudly have a partnership with several excellent MSW programs across the country. Once you are accepted to the program, you will provide the contact information for your field director if we do not already have an established relationship with them. Our office will then handle any paperwork or agreements required to continue your placement with us. Only CSWE-accredited programs or schools in the process of achieving accreditation will be considered. How can I make myself a good applicant? The ideal applicant has an attention to detail, excellent communication and writing skills, good organizational skills, a passion for trauma and social justice, and the ability to work as both a team player and independently. Interns do not need experience in the mental health field, although this is helpful. Preference is given to interns who are located in Colorado, as they may be eligible for hire after the internship ends.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Counseling Internship Program - Frequently Asked Questions</image:title>
Students must stay in the program for at least 2 consecutive semesters although most will be present for about a full calendar year. Can I complete my practicum with you? Students may complete both their practicum and internship with us, but not exclusively their practicum. Please contact us to arrange this timeline. My school does not have a partnership with you but I am interested. How can I get started? Once you are accepted to the program, you will provide the contact information for your school if we do not already have an established relationship with them. Our office will then handle any paperwork or agreements required to continue your placement with us. Only CACREP-accredited programs or schools in the process of achieving accreditation will be considered.

      <image:title>Trauma Systems Therapy - Trauma Systems Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Trauma Systems Therapy was developed by New York University in the 2000s as way to support traumatized youth in their environment, such as at home and school. Research supports TST for use in children and youth ages 5 to 21 years old. TST depends on the participation of the adults in the youth’s lives, such as family, teachers, and other providers. TST helps support youth and their families who have experienced a wide array of traumatic situations and now present with complex, challenging symptoms. For many youth in TST, they have experienced chronic, complex trauma such as: Foster care or kinship placement Psychiatric hospitalization Chronic emotional or verbal abuse Parental abandonment Sexual abuse, incest, or rape Physical abuse Neglect from caregivers TST is offered as part of our Intensive Trauma Treatment Program for youth and adults ages 12+.</image:caption>

<image:title>Trauma Systems Therapy - Three parts to the journey.</image:title>
<image:caption>TST begins with a lengthy assessment phase to identify your child’s unique needs, triggers, and treatment options. From there, your child and family may enter treatment in any of the three phases of the program. Safety Focused: Youth who enter treatment at this phase have symptoms and behaviors that may cause them to be unsafe, such as self-harm, running away, or suicidal thoughts. Your family may require additional sessions to help support the child in becoming safe again. Regulation Focused: In this phase, youth are engaging in relatively safe behaviors although may continue to have challenging symptoms, such as depression, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, arguing, and academic challenges. Your family and providers will focus on helping the youth to regulate their nervous system, develop coping skills, and feel safe and secure in their environment again. Beyond Trauma: In this final phase, youth process the trauma that has happened to them with the support of their treatment team and caregivers. Youth and families may find that throughout this phase, their appointments decrease and they begin to return to more “normal life,” such as dating, spending time with friends, participating in extra curricular activities, and going to school functions.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Trauma Systems Therapy - Future goals.</image:title>
<image:caption>Upon graduation from TST, many youth and families will continue to participate in weekly or biweekly individual and/or family therapy to begin working on subjects such as developing their identity outside of their trauma, managing more complex relationships, negotiating roles as an emerging adult, and creating post-high school goals. During this time, youth will keep their same individual and family therapist as appropriate. Many youth continue to receive supports at school, from their pediatrician, and from a psychiatrist outside of our office.</image:caption>

<image:title>Careers at The Patterson Center for Resiliency - A Little About Working Here</image:title>
<image:caption>Culture We are passionate about serving clients who have traditionally struggled to find high quality, long term mental health care from dedicated, caring clinicians who are not suffering from burnout. We believe in equity, inclusion, diversity, and justice in the work that we do. We are real “roll up your sleeves” kind of people that want to really make a difference in the world. We are better together and believe we do our best work when we use a team and systemic approach, including 4+ hours per week for (paid!) consultation and case staffing. We celebrate diversity and are a welcoming space for people of all races, genders, religions, nationalities, and disability statuses. We strive to be intentional about identifying and working through our biases, blind spots, and countertransference. While we are all united about our passion to work with people who come from hard places, we also believe that there are a lot of amazing ways to do that. We value regular continuing education at the expense of the clinic because we want to see you grow and flourish as a clinician. We welcome all provider types - the serious analytical bookworms, the free-spirited yogis, the whimsical ones that are often covered in paint and glitter, and everyone in between. Our Core Values: Integrity and ethics Quality patient care Happy, healthy staff Fiscal responsibility Learning, education, and research Social justice Community Prevention and education Strengths-based How to be a great applicant First review the complete job posting and ensure you meet or exceed the posted qualifications. The ideal applicant will articulate their skills, experience, and qualifications and demonstrate the competence and behaviors that reflect the ability to be successful in the role. Our office primarily serves youth, adults, and families with trauma and co-occurring conditions. Clients are typically seen anywhere from every other week to up to 20 hours per week in our intensive programs. Our providers receive a high level of support with 2-4 opportunities for supervision/consultation per week, paid administrative time, and camaraderie. Successful candidates will enjoy working on a team and learning from others. They will be passionate about serving marginalized communities, wrestling with tricky cases, and developing deep clinical skills. Our team is driven, sincere, and dedicated to the mission of helping people find hope and healing in difficult times.</image:caption>

<image:title>Careers at The Patterson Center for Resiliency</image:title>
<image:caption>Here are some enjoyable aspects of working here Our team is fun, motivated, and gets along well with each other. We love plants and dogs (although a few rogue providers prefer cats), however we also really love what we do. All provider staff are provided regular individual and group supervision at no cost to them. Every Monday we have breakfast together as we consult on cases. Three times a year, we get together for dinner or a Switchbacks game with staff, interns, and our families. Occasionally, our team celebrates each other with fun in-office competitions, such as our spring fitness challenge, holiday door decorating contests, and more. Our Hourly Pay W-2 Compensation Model We trust that you know how to spend your time in a way that gives the best care to our clients. That means that time spent in approved trainings, doing unbillable case management, making phone calls, answering emails, completing documentation, attending supervision, and performing all other assigned tasks is considered equally as valuable as the revenue generating services we provide. We believe in access to health care for all. By paying the same hourly rate for all work you perform, our providers are encouraged to take any insurance they are in network with rather than choosing only clients with higher paying coverage. We want healthy, happy providers. When you feel better, our clients feel better. This model allows us to provide more and better benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k + match, CEU funds, PTO, sick, holiday, student loan forgiveness, supervision, and more!) because it ensures that everyone meets the 30 hour per week minimum without having to worry about cancellations, no shows, or caseload size. We understand that financial anxiety is real. By offering an hourly rate with a set standard schedule, you do not have to worry about your paycheck varying week to week. It also reduces countertransference by not allowing client attendance to dictate your paycheck. We provide a robust training ground for new clinicians. Our W-2 model is largely thanks to our dedication to supporting pre-licensed clinicians in their journey to becoming a fully licensed provider. We support our clinicians through excellent education opportunities, ample supervision, and a vibrant, welcoming team atmosphere. We want to let you focus on the good stuff. You went to school to become a therapist. You are probably really good at that. Let us handle the advertising, billing, taxes, and other headaches that come with running a practice.</image:caption>
